The Rockwell House is a permanent shelter owned by The Pine Street Inn for women and men who are HIV positive. To complete this worthy project, architects and designers donated their services and persuaded their contacts to assemble furnishings, tile, paint, artwork, linens, etc. to outfit their assigned "rooms". Nashawtuc Architects volunteered to design and furnish one bedroom and one bathroom, both to be handicapped accessible.

In completing this project, every employee of Nashawtuc Architects participated in a hands-on way with the project: painting stencils on walls, glazing walls, building a bookcase, priming a floorcloth. It gave each participant the opportunity to put him or herself in the tenant's place and to think, through a very personal level, what it would be like to spend days in one room. While most of our work is for private clients, it has been an important part of the philosophy at Nashawtuc Architects to assist in projects of this nature whenever possible.
